The third annual Summer Times Open Film Festival has taken off on the banks of the Moskva River, giving movie buffs a unique chance to combine their love of going to the cinema with staying outdoors in the summer sun.
The idea behind the fest is to show Russians the movies they otherwise might have missed out on.
“There are a lot of good movies that don’t reach Russia for different reasons. And we have decided to show something smart, something interesting and something specific. That’s why we usually buy films that have never been shown in Russia before,” event organizer Lyudmila told RT.
The festival programme, overall consisting of nine different films includes, for example, “Happy Tears” starring Demi Moore that saw a wide release in the US and elsewhere in the world, but for some reason was ignored in Russia.
Organizers say the event is filled with repeat customers and sold out box offices every night.
“It’s summer, it’s very easy to decide, “Let’s go to the park!” I’ve seen a lot of couples around, they are going to watch movies. I think it’s very romantic and sweet,” movie lover Julia Savenkova told RT.
