Film buffs, foodies and Francophiles — this one’s for you. It’s an eclectic weekend “over the hill” with outdoor movie screenings, food trucks and a celebration of French culture.
The Outdoor Cinema Food Fest is a new summer event series July 10-August 28 held at Grand Hope Park, Exposition Park and La Cienega Park that combines outdoor movie screenings and a revolving cast of food trucks. Movies will be presented on a 52-foot screen with 15,000 watts of professional JBL sound. At three stories tall, it is the largest outdoor movie screen on the west coast. It’s the ultimate picnic for food and film buffs.
Over 60 trucks will roll in over the course of the eight week series which opens this Saturday evening with Swingers, starring ‘they’re so money‘ Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau. Opening night food trucks, along with a wine bar, include Cool Haus, Komodo Food, Munchie Machine, Frysmith and Barbie’s Q.
Screenings held on consecutive Saturday evenings are: The Big Lebowski, Pulp Fiction, Moulin Rouge, The Hangover, The Breakfast Club, The Princess Bride, and the new Disney family film, Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue. Exposition Park will have 10-12 trucks per event. Food trucks will be on site ready to serve when doors open at 6pm. Movie starts at 8:30pm. Food trucks and concessions will be available throughout the event. Doors close 11pm. $8 a ticket or group of 4 for $5 each and under 5 free.
Cinespa continues its tenth season of outdoor screenings at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Bring a picnic, pillows and blankets, but no high back chairs, dogs or bbqs. Alcohol is permitted. Sit back listen to a DJ spin tunes before the screening which is cast on a mausoleum wall. This Saturday, Frank Capra’s classic, Arsenic and Old Lace, is the featured film. Following weeks include Saturday Night Fever and High Noon. Gates open at 7:30 pm and the screening is at 9 pm. No reservations and $10 donation is suggested at the door. Parking on grounds is $5.
Founded in 1899, the cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic sites and is the final resting place of famous studio heads, writers, directors and hundreds on Hollywood’s greatest stars, including Johnny Ramone, Cecil B.
